Values
Five values underpin everything I do:
Curiosity
Asking the right questions, and really listening to the answers. Observing the world and exploring why things are the way they are. Using the Socratic method to challenge assumptions. Retaining an open mind.
Rigour
Using intellect and logical analysis to work out the answer. As Euclid did in the fields of mathematics and geometry, making sure those answers are exact and concrete. Never presenting anything if it has not been proven.
Integrity
Always doing what I say I will do. Not allowing myself to pick and choose. According to Plato, “the man of integrity hears without any intention to betray, and speaks without any intention to deceive”.
Trust
Aristotle defined three qualities that inspire trust – good sense (does what I say make sense?), good character (am I morally upright enough to say what I think?) and goodwill (have I endeared myself to others?). Developing strong relationships with clients is a pre-requisite for delivering the right advice.
People
The golden rule - do to others as you would have them do to you. This near-global ethic can be found in almost every tradition (from Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and Zoroastrianism). Ensuring this translates into behaviour, every day.
